In Memory, a few words about Bob and Kathy Ibos

Kathy and Bob moved to Johnson Island with their 5 children in the early 70's.  They dug in immediately and started building their home away from home.  Their boys and Jenny made trails from one end of the island the the other and used their metal detector to find their treasures.  Little did they know that they were unearthing history.  They were soon to find out how historic JI was.  There weren't many people on the island at this time.  There was no causeway to the island.  You had to travel back and forth by boat.

Their voices are silent now, but they were  very outspoken when talking about the history and politics of JI.  They were very dedicated in finding all the early history of the island.  Bob's tenacity to keep digging in books and in the ground for little bits of history lead to his opening the JI Museum in Marblehead.  Bob and the children had dug up many artifacts and there were others that offered to share their finds for the museum. Bob could talk for hours about Johnson Island.  They both loved the island dearly.

Bob gave many hours to being a trustee for many years.  Of course, Kathy was right there behind the scenes working right along with Bob.  They were important voices in the direction JI took over the years.  We all owe them a debt of gratitude.  They both left us too soon
